The CIPSA ECO-Buy National Sustainable Procurement Forum
7th & 8th September
Etihad Stadium
Melbourne
Foreword from CIPSA
The National Sustainable Procurement Forum on 7th & 8th September at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne is being co-branded and co-developed by CIPSA Conferences and ECO-Buy. www.ecobuy.org.au
Procurement professionals increasingly have a greater role in driving the sustainability agenda within their organisations, by delivering cost benefits through smarter whole of lifecycle purchasing, being aware of the impacts on the environment of their supply chains, and by ensuring that their organisation is a good corporate citizen.
The forum will feature a broad ranging plenary (single stream) programme on the 1st day and two streams of interactive half-day workshops on the 2nd day addressing key issues across the sustainability agenda.
Sustainable is one of the most used, and abused words, currently in vogue. It can mean very different things to people. In developing the programme for this event, the producers of the conference from CIPSA Conferences and ECO-Buy have adopted the following definition of sustainable procurement:
Sustainable procurement means only purchasing goods that are really needed, and buying items or services whose production, use and disposal both minimize negative impacts and encourage positive outcomes for the environment, economy and society.
I commend the programme to you and hand-over to Hugh Wareham, Chief Executive of ECO-Buy to explain in more detail the key themes of the conference,
Jonathan Dutton FCIPS

Foreword from ECO-Buy
ECO-Buy has teamed up with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing to launch this exciting new Sustainable Procurement Forum for 2011.
Sustainable procurement is fast developing as the next big revolution in procurement and provides opportunities for improved efficiency, reduced resource use, cost savings and of course reducing an organisation’s impact.
Whether you are an organisation well underway with integrating sustainability into your purchasing or just wondering about how to get started, this forum offers a range of interesting outcome based solutions.
Expert presenters will cover the big topics and the latest thinking in sustainable procurement, show what best practice looks like and what organisations are actually doing to tackle the challenges and make progress. The workshops on Day Two will provide more in-depth guidance and solutions to be taken away and applied in your own organisations.
ECO-Buy is an independent not for profit Centre of Excellence in environmental purchasing. ECO-Buy has over a decade of experience working with organisations in buying more sustainably.
